I was the Stu Suttcliffe of vastlesssmudge

I was the Stu Suttcliffe of vastlesssmudge.

Really I was more like the guy from Hawkwind who stayed in Canada while they were on tour there - I think it was del dettmar ; it could have been dik mik, but that's obscure even for me.

In the early 80's under the name "Dunc" I performed on the following recordings:

Sitting with my baby on a boat (that floats) - backing vocals and kazoo
Downtown - clarinet
Barbara Ann - vocal and tape manipulation
We are going to talk to Ted - possibly percussion, but i may just have been present

I don't know if any were released.

Since leaving the band, I've become a regular on the vastlessmudge fan convention circuit and a well-known but secret source of pirated vastlesssmudge recordings. I am currently working on a tell all memoir of the early days of vastlesssmudge.

Sincerely,

Brian Peaslee

Comments:
EDITORS NOTE:

"We Are Going To Talk To Ted" comes out of the "Live At India's Donkey Festival" sessions from Feb or Mar
1984. Recorded in Dunc's apartment
in North Oakland, Pittsburgh PA.
Later these sessions came to be known
as dirge-fest. They are historic most
notably because they yielded some of
the most rhythmically challenged music in the entire vastlesssmudge catalogue. These sessions also birthed "Nobody Home" and the young male angst love classic "She's
Got Little Hooks".

EDITORS NOTE:

Dunc did indeed add percussion flares
to the dirge fest feast, as is documented in the previously unavailable track "We Are Going To Talk To Ted".

It is worth noting to note the delightful discourse at the end of
"We Are Going To Talk To Ted".
Listen as the boys discuss the breakdown of the song's ending.

Audiophiles or idiots will enjoy paying special attention to the radio interference coming through on the right channel of the track.
A common problem with the recording
technology of the time.

EDITORS NOTE:

"Downtown" was released on the 1985 cassette compilation M UNI CA 4 VER RVE VELO (1983-1985)

"Nobody Home" and "She's Got Little
Hooks" also were first released on
this
same compilation
.

Thanks to the vastlesssmudge blog, i have now been able to listen to the released version "Downtown". This was the first and only time i ever played a clarinet.

I am patiently and anxiously awaiting the check for my percentage of the vast(less) amount of money this hit single must have produced.

Sincerely
Brian Peaslee
